It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Rheal DeGrâce husband to the late Jeanne (Lamarec) DeGrâce, which occurred at the Chaleur Regional Hospital on Thursday October 8, 2026, at the age of 93.
Born in Beresford, he was the son of the late Samuel DeGrâce and the late Lydia (Cormier) DeGrâce.
He leaves behind his three children: Michael DeGrâce of BanCroft, Ont., Wanda DeGrâce of Mississauga, Ont., and Denise Dallimore (Todd) of Burlington, Ont.
Three grandchildren: Kyle DeGrâce (Laura), Ryan Dallimore and Taylor Dallimore. Great grandson: Thomas DeGrâce.
His sister: Marie Boucher of Beresford.
His special friend: Alvina Guitard.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings: Adrienne, Aurele, Hector, Emile, Valmond, Celia and Sammy.
Rheal enjoyed fishing, whether ice fishing on Lake Simcoe or heading out onto the Atlantic waters and the Bay of Fundy. He had a lifelong love of cars, enjoyed going for drives, and could often be found on the dance floor. He and Alvina enjoyed going out for dinner and dancing together.
Rheal took an interest in his grandchildren’s lives and enjoyed hearing about their activities and accomplishments, including Rep baseball and hockey. He enjoyed hearing about Ryan’s time as a junior golfer and Taylor’s involvement in dance and competitive gymnastics. He was proud to follow Kyle’s baseball journey, including the scholarships that took him to Connors State College and Arkansas State University. He also enjoyed hearing about his great-grandson Thomas’s early adventures into sports and fishing at the cottage.
Affectionately known to Ryan and Taylor as “Grandpa from New Brunswick,” Rheal held a special place in their lives. He was also a familiar face at the local Tim Hortons, where he regularly stopped for coffee.
Rheal was a helpful neighbour and valued the friendships he built throughout his life. In his later years, he appreciated the kindness, care and support he received from family and friends.
A funeral mass will be held at a later date.
Donations in memory of Rheal may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home, Bathurst. (www.elhatton.com).
