It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Singer, the beloved patriarch of our family.
Richard passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, at Chaleur Regional Hospital in New Brunswick on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, after a long illness. He was 82.
Richard shared an extraordinary 62 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Beth. Since her passing just eight weeks ago, he missed her deeply, and we take comfort in imagining them together again.
He was a proud father to Darryl and Scott, and a deeply loved father-in-law to Erica, Laurie, and Maxelle. Nothing brought Richard more joy than his role as Zadie. He adored his grandchildren—Jacob (Meghan), Bennie, Leora, Kaitlyn, and Libby—and was absolutely overjoyed to become a great-grandfather to little Owen.
Richard had a gift: he truly loved people. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and had a way of making others feel seen, welcomed, and valued. When he moved to Bathurst four years ago, after a lifetime in Montreal and Toronto, he quickly built a circle of friends who felt like lifelong companions. That was simply who he was.
He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, humour, kindness, and connection. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory be a blessing.
Our family is incredibly grateful to the compassionate staff at Chaleur Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit for their care and support. We also wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to Richard’s exceptional care team—Dr. Thibeault and his team, pharmacists Sarah and Katie from Harbourview Guardian Pharmacy, and the wonderful staff of the Extramural Program—for their dedication, kindness, and compassion.
In keeping with Richard’s wishes, the service and Shiva will be private. A Celebration of the Lives of Richard and Beth will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 5-7pm at the Royal Canadian Legion located at 1220 Bridge Street, Bathurst, NB.
Memorial donations in honour of Richard may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Atlantic Jewish Council https://theajc.ca/ (902)-422-7491.
