Bob’s wife and favoured companion Yvonne for 54 years passed away in March 2019. His life continued without Yvonne until now. Life was not the same without Yvonne.

Bob worked as an apprentice land surveyor with the local paper company straight out of high school. He migrated to the mining industry in 1958 and spent the majority of his career in the mining industry. His first job in mining (1958 to 1960) was in Tilt Cove, Nfld. He moved to Lynn Lake, Manitoba where he spent another two years. He went back to Nfld. in 1962 and worked at Atlantic Coast Copper where he stayed for a short time. Bob decided to try the construction industry and worked with Montreal Engineering during the building of a hydro project in Grand Falls, Nfld. It was in Grand Falls that he met Yvonne. Bob moved to Baie Comeau, QC in 1963 where he worked on the installation of a paper machine and then on to New Richmond QC until 1965. Bob and Yvonne married in April 1965 and moved to New Richmond, QC. Bob and Yvonne moved back to Nfld. in 1966 when Bob took a position with Gullbridge Mines. John and Chris happened along during their time in NL.

In 1971 Bob and Yvonne moved to Bathurst where Bob started working in the Mine Engineering Dept.at Brunswick Mining. Bob retired from Brunswick Mining in 1997. He was one of the founding members of the Nepisiguit Salmon Assoc. and served as a director for 5 years. Bob was and remained an active salmon fisherman for most of his life. He was a Cub Scout leader at Holy Family for 6 years and was also the District Commissioner for Bathurst District for another 7 years. He made many friends in the Scout Movement and attended many training sessions for Scout leaders during his time as District Commissioner. Bob was a curler from his earliest days in Tilt Cove and curled in many venues from natural ice to an outdoor rink. Although not very good at curling he had a great time with friends and enjoyed the social aspect of curling. He was member of the Bathurst Curling Club and remained a member until 2014. He served as Secretary - Treasurer for three years. Bob was an avid reader and spent many hours in the chair reading for entertainment and personal knowledge. Gardening was one of his favourite hobbies and he maintained a flower garden and a vegetable garden until his health demanded he quit digging and mowing. Bob retired from Brunswick in 1997 and over the years he spent 10 winters in Florida with Yvonne. They also visited the British Isles and Europe a few times. Bob and Yvonne travelled The Carribean, Costa Rica, Mexico and Western Canada where they enjoyed the local cultures and food. A visit to Newfoundland was a yearly ritual for many years. Bob and Yvonne hosted a Canada Day Party every year for 26 years rain or shine. The parties were usually attended by anywhere from 35 to 70 people and at the gathering many old friends met each other for perhaps the only time during the year. Bob and Yvonne enjoyed life and liked a party Newfie Style. Bob never forgot his roots and experiences that could only be experienced in Newfoundland.

The family would like to thank Dr. D.A Wade and his staff for 40 plus years of care. Dr. Matteau was Bob’s cardiologist and provided much support and kindness for many years. The management and staff of Southern Comfort looked after Bob’s needs since May 2023.
