Petit-Rocher – It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Gilles Dumas of Petit-Rocher. Surrounded by his family and loved ones, Gilles left us on January 16, 2026, at the age of 57 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Born in Bathurst, he was the son of Huguette (Godin) and Jean-Claude Dumas.
Gilles was a man who was always smiling, someone who could light up a room and make everyone laugh. Passionate about music and his Tim Hortons coffee, nothing was more important to him than his family. If you had the chance to know Gilles, you knew that nothing was more precious to him. Even upon a first meeting, he made you feel as though you had known him forever.
Besides his parents, he leaves in mourning his children: Mark (Cynthia), Katherine (Josh), and Jeremy (Natasha); his sisters: Nicole (Peter), Lyne (René), and Diane; his grandchildren Ayla and baby Dumas, as well as his partner, Joanne Godin.
He also leaves behind several uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, a great-nephew, a great-niece, and many dear friends.
His passing leaves a great void, but his memory will remain alive in the hearts of all who had the chance to know him.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the team of the Neurological Intensive Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital for their attentive care.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com) in Bathurst. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Beresford. In memory of Gilles, a donation to the “Tim Hortons Day Camp” foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
