Bathurst - Remembering his full and vibrant life, we say goodbye to Pierre Marquis, a dear Dad, Pappy, and husband, (to the late Carole (Dow) Marquis), which occurred suddenly at his residence on June 18th, 2025.

Pierre was born in Pointe Claire, Quebec, to the late Alexandre Canac Marquis and Helene Boucher.

He met Carole Theresa Dow and they were married in 1958, settling in Rosemère, Quebec working as town manager until Pierre packed up the family to move to the east coast to be the city manager of Bathurst. He quickly became engrained in the fabric of the community, serving and volunteering on many committees and commissions, even serving as Gowan Brae Golf Club president in 1981-1982. In 1982, he became Assistant Deputy Minister of Municipal Affairs, then Deputy Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment for the province of New Brunswick until his retirement in 1991.

Fiercely devoted to those he loved, he demonstrated relentless commitment when his wife was diagnosed with Multiple Systems Atrophy. He spent every day by her side until her death in 2007.

Above all else, Pierre will be remembered for his tremendously active lifestyle that supported his admirable longevity and joie de vivre. He made countless memories with family and friends skiing mountains and trails, canoeing, fly fishing, curling, playing tennis, hockey and sailing. He eagerly anticipated his time with his Florida friends where he wintered for the past eighteen years in North Fort Myers. An avid golfer, he accomplished the feat of three holes in one golfing in Florida, and was named the Lake Fairways 2017 GB 18 Hole Flight Runner up, 2020 Lake Fairways Men’s D-Flight Champion, and the 2025 Lake Fairways C Flight Runner Up.

In recent years, he filled his time in Bathurst on the links of Gowan Brae, weekly Thursday mornings with his breakfast crew, joyful gatherings with family and friends, and meticulously maintaining his home on Carl Drive. He lived a full life in every sense of the phrase, even golfing nine holes and mowing the lawn on his last day.

He leaves behind his four children: Lynne (Paul Boyle) of Quispamsis, NB; Jo-Anne (Jim Danahy) of Quispamsis, NB; Glenn (Joan Hannan) of Pointe Claire, QC; Chantal (Keith Daley) of Stonehaven, NB.

He was lovingly known as Pappy to his grandchildren: Danielle Boyle (Andrew Dunphy) and Shawn Boyle (Alex Gagnon); Jenny Danahy (Will Reid), Kaely Danahy (Kelsey Gallagher) and Alec Danahy; Michelle Marquis (Charles Côté) and Jacob Marquis; Alysa Daley (Andrew Collins), Lauren Daley (Riley Baechler) and Jillian Daley.

His great grandchildren: Oliver and Landon; Callie and Hayden; Fiadh and Llewyn; Trent and Hudson; and Hartwell.

He also leaves behind brothers: Robert and Paul Marquis.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 9th at 2pm at Holy Family Church, Bathurst. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.

Those wishing to honor Pierre may do so by making a donation to a charity of their choice.
