It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Elizabeth “Betty” Garrett which occurred at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst on Monday, January 8, 2024 at the age of 88.

Born in Stonehaven, she was the daughter of the late Clayton and Lillian (Cormier) Scott.

Betty was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Herman J. Good VC Branch #18.

She is survived by her two daughters: Lois Lewis (Neil) of Florida and Brenda Garrett of Bathurst. Two sons: Robert (Pauline) and Blair (Annette) both of Bathurst. Eight grandchildren: Taylor, Keith, Patrick, Elizabeth, Logan, Nicole, Heidi and Christian and 15 great-grandchildren. One sister: Jean Lavigne (late Norman) of Bathurst. A stepbrother Gary Branch, a son-in-law Derrick Lockhart and a special friend Grant Smith. 

She was predeceased by her husband Melvin, two daughters, Diane Doucet (late Dale) and Paula Lockhart, a brother Roger (late Margie), stepfather Donald Branch and stepbrothers, Glendon, Norman, Donald Jr. and Harold.

Visitation will be held at Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), on Monday, January 15, 2024 from 2 – 4 p.m. Funeral service for Betty will be held on Tuesday January 16, 2024 at 2 p.m. from First United Church, St. Patrick St., Bathurst.

Donations in memory of Betty may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Alzheimer Society, or a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton Funeral Home, Bathurst.
