  •  Date of Death: April 17, 2023

  •  Funeral Information: August 24, 2023 at 02:00 PM in Elhatton's Funeral Chapel

After a lifelong battle with heart disease and a courageous 12 year struggle with cancer, our miracle man, Maurice (Moe) Picot passed away peacefully at Vancouver General Hospital on April 17, 2023 at the age of 72.

The son of the late J. Adolphus Picot and the late Mercedes Landry, he is survived by sisters Carmelle (Charles Junod) of Switzerland, Anne (Paul Theriault) of St-Anne, Janet (Gerry Pitre) of Bathurst, Mercedes L. Picot of Bathurst and brother Gerard Picot (Pauline) of Miramichi. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Michelle, Stephane, Natalie (his Goddaughter), Allan, Francois, Shannon, Alex, Jeremy, Nathan, Angela and Paul Jr. several grand nieces and nephews, many cousins including special cousins the late Pierre Tremblay of Bathurst; Claudette Picot of Courtenay, BC; and the Dyer family of Vancouver.

Other than his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Charles and his niece Karolyn, as well as his close friend Steve Dyer.

Maurice graduated from BHS in 1970, and attended NBCC in Saint John in the early 70’s. His career as a diesel mechanic spanned Saint John, Moncton and Vancouver. His hobbies included weekends as a member of the Pit Crew for Motorsports Sprint Car Racing with the late Steve Dyer and Luke Diduik of Hymach Industries, traveling to locations in the Pacific southwest and the US and, in his later years, watching car racing, old western movies and listening to the Dixie Chicks.

He was a beloved friend and a devoted son, brother, brother-in-law and uncle. We will sadly miss his frequent calls by phone and skype and his favorite comments “fair to middling" and "just another glitch in the road". We truly hope there are New Brunswick lobsters in heaven for him.

Special thanks to his LMN care givers and his Oncologist, Dr. Stephen Nantel of Vancouver. Without his vigilance and his ardent personal and professional care, we would have lost him much sooner.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home. A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023, 2:00 p.m., at the Elhatton’s chapel. Donations in memory of Maurice (Moe) can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home, Bathurst, (www.elhatton.com).
