Gregory Doucet

  • Gregory Doucet 1932-2021

  •  Date of Death: October 31, 2021
  •  Location: Bathurst

Gregory Doucet (Giggy) of Bathurst returned to his heavenly home with family by his side on October 31st at the age of 89.

Born in Bathurst, NB in 1932, he was the son of the late Zita (White) and Theodore Doucet.

He was blessed with a large and loving family whom he leaves behind: his loving wife Betty of 62 years; his sisters: Noreen and Carmel Hachey (Mack); his adored children: Stephen (Jenny), David (Linda) and Karen (Ricky), his many grandchildren: Nicole, Sarah, Jessica, Sammie, Krysi, Gregory, Dylan and Emily, and his great grandchildren A.J, Juniper, Hunter and Aliza. Gregory was predeceased by his brothers Ivan, Bernie, Eugene, and Theodore (Sunny), along with his sisters Elenor (Sexton) and Marion.

Gregory retired from the Canadian Armed Forces with 25 years of service, most of which was served with the navy. He later worked with the militia 2RNBR until his final retirement. Greg was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a lifelong member of the Holy Family Church and member of the Herman J. Good Legion. Greg had a love for the outdoors and a special place in his heart for his dogs. Gregory also loved a good game of cards - especially Auction 45 (or growl, what he preferred to call it). In his spare time, he would enjoy watching the Detroit Red Wings while playing solitaire at his desk, and listening to country music, Irish music or anything with bag pipes while joyfully tapping along. Gregory was a charming and sharp-witted man with a playful humour. He had a generous spirit who made everyone around him at ease. His contagious laugh, with joke after joke, would have you in stitches. There is no doubt that he will be missed by many.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at R.L. Knowles Veterans Unit for their high-quality healthcare that exceeds their regular duties. Their empathy and compassion do not go without notice.

There will be no visitation or service for Gregory. A private graveside service will be held. At the family’s request, donations can be made to the outstanding R.L. Knowles Veterans Unit. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton Funeral Home in Bathurst. www.elhatton.com
