Norman Lavigne

  • Norman Lavigne 1945-2021

  •  Date of Death: September 29, 2021
  •  Location: Bathurst
  •  Funeral Information: October 04, 2021 at 02:00 PM in Sacred Heart Cathedral

It is with great sadness that the family of Norman Lavigne, formerly of Squire Green, Bathurst, announce his passing on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at the age of 76, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital.

Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Bernard “Bert” and Helena “Tootsie” (Blanchard) Lavigne.

Besides his wife of 55 years, Jean (Scott) Lavigne, he is survived by two daughters:

Eleanor Kenny (Peter) of Fredericton and Patti-Jo Cormier (James) of Bathurst.

Four grandchildren: Jordan Kenny (Emily Bielecka), Amanda Kenny (Kent Doucette), Shamus and Abigail Cormier; three great-grandchildren: Sophie Kenny, John and James Brewer.

Five brothers: Eric Lavigne (Yvonne), Rudolph Lavigne (Carmella), Maurice Lavigne (Anita), Thomas Lavigne (Rosella), Sydney Lavigne (Pierrette) all of Bathurst. One sister: Joanne Losier (Edmond) of Four Roads.

Several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was pre-deceased by an infant sister, Eleanor Alice.

Prior to his retirement in 2002, Norman worked for Brunswick Mines for 38 years and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. Over the years Norman enjoyed bowling, chauffeuring the Bathurst Roadrunners to many a tournament, golfing, hunting, spending time at the camp on Shady Lane and a good bus tour. He took his role as a Montreal Canadian’s fan very seriously and seemed to believe he could have been a better GM. Norman was also a force to be reckoned with around the card table; especially when playing auction 45. After his retirement he enjoyed “hiring” himself out as a jack of all trades - he could build it, paint it, or fix it; no job was too big. He was also a fan of whatever sport his grandchildren were playing and travelled wherever he had to, to be in the stands cheering. He was always their biggest fan.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, October 3, 2021 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday October 4, 2021 at 2 p.m. from the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bathurst. Proof of vaccination is required.

Donations in memory of Norman may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the donor’s favorite charity.
