Bathurst - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, David “Dave” Kenny, on Friday, September 4, 2026, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, at the age of 87. 

Born and raised in Bathurst he was the oldest son of the late Bernard and Yvette (Blanchard) Kenny. 

He is survived by his wife, Yvette (Frenette) Kenny and our mother Helen (Power) Kenny; his four sons, Keith, Brian (Wendy), both of Bathurst, Ronald (Christine) of Miramichi, and Michael of Petit-Rocher with whom Dad shared an especially close bond. Stepchildren, Renée Kenny (Bryan), Rachelle Frenette (Jean Sébastien), Jean-Marc Pitre (Alisha) 17 grandchildren, Colin, Alyssa, Courtney, Jessica, Chelsea, Bryanna, Madison, Tyler, Grayson, Shane, Olivia, Ophélia, Brigitte, Vincent, Laetitia, Hunter and Ryleigh as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Dave was predeceased by his son, Patrick, in 1982, and by his younger brother, William “Billy” Kenny in 2024.

After Dave suffered his stroke and his health began to decline, Yvette was truly an angel to him. Our family will always be deeply grateful for the love, care and devotion she gave to Dad during those difficult years by allowing him to remain in his home up until his passing.

For all that Dave accomplished in business, nothing meant more to him than his family. Dave spent his life building. He built businesses, homes and neighbourhoods. He built projects that changed the community around him. But his greatest source of pride was the family he helped build and the generations that will follow him.

Dave loved his children and was especially proud of his grandchildren. He took tremendous joy in watching them grow, following their lives and accomplishments, and spending time with them in the early years dressing up as Santa Claus at the camp or for celebrations at his home. They were a great source of happiness and pride to him.

Dave enjoyed life and the company of family and friends. He loved travelling with Yvette to Florida every winter, entertaining friends and playing cards with his buddies.

In 1959 he began his business career in retail with Kenny’s TV and Radio, later branching into Radioland, a chain of record and entertainment stores throughout the Maritimes. He also became involved in construction, concrete, asphalt, road building, real estate, home building and subdivision development including being a founder and partner of Danny’s Speed Bowl.

His brother, Bill, was also an important partner in those early years and played a key role in their business success.

Perhaps his most visible and lasting business legacy will be Squire Green. What began as a vision grew into a residential community, new homes and the beautiful Squire Green Golf course. Dave was especially proud of the golf course, which was donated to its members so that it could continue to be enjoyed by the community for generations to come.

In his younger years, Dave was active in his community and was associated with several community and service organizations, including the UCT, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and the New Brunswick Road Builders Association. 

The family would like to extend its sincere thanks to the 2nd floor and palliative care staff of the Chaleur Regional Hospital for the excellent care and kindness shown to Dad during his brief stay.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst, with a funeral service to be held from the Sacred Heart Cathedral at a date and time to be announced.  

A Celebration of Life will follow the funeral at the Kent Farm, 500 Squire Green Drive, 

Donations in Dave’s memory may be made to the BEST Group, Special Olympics or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Dave leaves behind more than buildings, businesses and projects. He leaves behind a family who loved him, a community that bears the mark of his vision, and a legacy that will continue for generations. He lived a great life, and he lived it to the fullest.

He will be deeply missed and always remembered.
