After a long battle with cancer, it is with great sadness and with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Wilmond Poirier of Bathurst, husband of the late Dorina Doiron, which occurred peacefully at his residence accompanied by his children at his side on June 29, 2025 at the age of 91. Born in St. Leolin, he was the son of the late Franklin Poirier and the late Malvina Dugas.

He is survived by three daughters: Yolande (Tommy), Nicole, both of Bathurst and Jeannette (Tim) of Fredericton; his grandkids: Melissa, Samantha, Brandon and Melanie and great grandkids: Nixon and Isla, as well as his companion of over twenty years, Elna Scott and her children, grandkids and great grandkids.

He leaves behind his three sisters and was predeceased by four brothers and four sisters.

He worked hard all his life to provide for his family. Even after he retired as an electrical inspector, he always had many projects on the go and he could often be seen working outside, creating or fixing things. He loved playing his guitar and writing his own songs. It was one of his greatest passions.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of the fourth degree and a Grand Knight, at the Bathurst Chapter for many years.

He was such a wonderful, gentle and patient man, and he was loved by all who knew him. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his family and his guitar. He has left us with so many wonderful memories. He was also a devout Catholic and he was usually seen sitting in the same pew at the Cathedral almost every morning especially on Sundays.

We will miss him tremendously and we are also grateful that he was able to live such a long and happy life surrounded by family, friends and the places that he loved. We would like to thank the extra-mural nurses, doctors and personnel who have been so wonderful to our family throughout this ordeal. Also, we would like to thank the staff at Guardian Pharmacy in Bathurst for going above and beyond their call of duties to provide such wonderful service for us. No words can express our gratitude.

Visitations will be held at Elhatton Funeral Home in Bathurst on July 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. and July 9 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Bathurst at 2 p.m.

At the request of the family, donation can be made in his name with the cancer society or a benefit of your choice.
