Bathurst – Melvin Ferrell, of Bathurst, passed away on Thursday May 21, 2026, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst. He was a stoic and hardworking man whose life was shaped by humble beginnings in Bay North, Newfoundland. Born to John and Jane Farrell, both predeceased, he carried with him the values of resilience, quiet strength, and dedication throughout his life. He was also predeceased by his sister, Barbara Lepage (Farrell).

After moving to Bathurst in summer of 1965, Melvin built a life grounded in hard work, family, and craftsmanship. It was there he met and married Mary Hannan, beginning a partnership that would shape the rest of his years.

He will be truly missed by his wife, two children Lexie Jardine (Colin) and Kirk Farrell, his two grandkids Sydney and Reid Jardine. Also by his extended family.

Melvin found peace and purpose near the water. He loved the salty air, the open ocean, and the simple honesty of working with his hands. He shared his passion for open-water fishing with his family, creating memories that will endure for generations. Later in life, he poured himself into owning and maintaining his camp, a true labor of love that reflected his patience, skill, and determination.

A gifted woodworker, Melvin was happiest when building, repairing, or creating something with care and precision. He was not a man of many words, but his actions spoke clearly. His love was shown through what he built, what he provided, and the time he spent with those closest to him.

He will be remembered for his quiet strength, steady presence, and deep connection to the land and sea he loved so dearly.
